Maison Marit, Brussels – 1933

Maison Marit, Brussels – 1933

Maison Marit, on Rue de la Seconde Reine in Uccle, Brussels, stands as a fine example of Streamline Art Deco architecture by Louis Tenaerts. Tenaerts, a prolific architect with 1,650 verified buildings to his name, was renowned for his innovative approach to housing, offering his designs from a catalogue that could then be individually customised for his clients.

The façade of this house defied the conventions of its time in 1933. Featuring clean geometric lines characteristic of Art Deco, infused with elements of Streamline Moderne and a striking stained-glass window.

Recent restoration by the current owners has added a Bauhaus feel to the building in the stark black-and-white contrast applied. My illustration restores the facade's original splendour, preserving its historical and architectural impact.
