Unbuilt Tivoli, Mumbles - 1937

As I noted in my other works, some of my subjects have been poorly maintained or demolished. But at least these have had a chance to be attended and appreciated. Today I'm bringing you a cinema that could have been but never was.

While researching the Tivoli in Mumbles, I visited the Swansea archives to examine their records. I discovered detailed plans from May 1937 for a plaster and brick building that received full approval but was never constructed. It differs greatly from the columnated façade that opened in 1939. I am unable to determine the exact reasons for the change in plans. Still, within the two years between 1937 and 1939, a completely different modernist cinema was designed, submitted, approved and constructed.

This new artwork is the Tivoli that was never built, and a great companion piece to the Tivoli that was.
